Anal Fistula Care in Vancouver: Why Delaying Treatment Can Make Things Worse
Living with an anal fistula can be exhausting, painful, and frustrating. Many patients in Vancouver tell me the same thing: they were placed on a long wait list, treated repeatedly with antibiotics, or told to “watch it” while recurrent infections continued. The problem is that an anal fistula rarely resolves on its own.At Precision Proctology, I provide rapid-access evaluation and surgical treatment for patients traveling from Vancouver and the surrounding region. Most patients can be seen the same week, with surgery typically scheduled within 1–2 weeks depending on complexity and operating availability.
What Is an Anal Fistula?
An anal fistula is an abnormal tunnel that forms between the inside of the anal canal and the skin near the anus. It usually develops after a prior abscess or infection.Common symptoms include:Recurrent swelling or “boils” Drainage of pus or blood Pain or pressure Repeated infections requiring antibiotics Skin irritation or staining Cycles of improvement followed by recurrence Many patients experience temporary relief after drainage or antibiotics, only to have the infection return weeks or months later.
Why Delaying Care Can Be Risky
An untreated fistula is not simply an inconvenience. Over time, recurrent infection and inflammation can lead to:Larger or more complex fistula tracts Multiple external openings Recurrent abscess formation More extensive surgery later Ongoing pain and drainage Scarring and tissue damage Greater disruption to work, exercise, intimacy, and daily life One of the most frustrating experiences for patients is being trapped in a cycle of urgent care visits, antibiotics, and recurrent infection without a definitive treatment plan.Earlier evaluation often means more treatment options and a smoother recovery.
Same-Week Access for Vancouver Patients
Patients frequently travel from Vancouver because they are looking for faster access, discreet care, and clear communication. My practice is designed to provide:Same-week consultations whenever possible Direct surgeon evaluation Personalized treatment planning Transparent pricing Efficient scheduling Rapid access to surgery when indicated Many patients are surprised at how long they have been suffering before finally receiving a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan.
Transparent Private-Pay Pricing
One of the most stressful aspects of private medical care is uncertainty around cost.I believe patients deserve transparency. Before surgery, patients receive clear information regarding:Consultation fees Procedure costs Facility and anesthesia fees Expected recovery timeline Follow-up care There are no surprise bills or hidden facility charges discovered after treatment. For many patients — especially those dealing with recurrent infection and long delays — timely treatment and clarity are worth avoiding months of ongoing symptoms.
Surgical Treatment Options
Treatment depends on the fistula anatomy and complexity. Options may include:Fistulotomy Seton placement Sphincter-sparing procedures Abscess drainage Staged approaches for complex disease The goal is always to:Eliminate infection Resolve drainage and pain Preserve continence and function Every fistula is different, which is why an individualized evaluation matters.
Discreet, Compassionate Care
Many patients delay care because they feel embarrassed discussing anorectal symptoms. You are not alone.Anal fistulas are common, treatable medical conditions. My practice is built around respectful, discreet, and judgment-free care for all patients.
Vancouver Patients Welcome
If you are dealing with recurrent infections, drainage, or pain from an anal fistula, you do not need to continue waiting indefinitely for answers.Precision Proctology offers rapid-access consultation and definitive treatment planning for patients traveling from Vancouver and across the Pacific Northwest. All patients will be evaluated the same week, with surgery scheduled within 1–2 weeks.
